Bowling on the First Date

Trying to come up with a first date plan may put a lot of stress on people. You want to make sure you do something fun that will allow you plenty of opportunity to get to know the individual while avoiding awkward times. Most people choose for dinner or a drink, but bowling is an underutilized dating option.

If you're hesitant to bring out the bowling accessories when going bowling, keep reading to find out why bowling may be a great first date:
  • Determine your date's personality: Bowling with your date might provide valuable insights into your relationship. Does he yell and pump his fist in the air after each shot? Is she making self-effacing comments and walking back along the approach in a bashful manner? Is he motivating or competitive? Observing your date while they play is an excellent method to learn about what makes them tick and what their primary personality traits are.
  • Just the perfect atmosphere: If you know a little bit more about your date, you may get points by picking a bowling alley that matches their personality. Perhaps they want luxury and would prefer to bowl at a pricier establishment with waiters and darker lighting, or perhaps they are more laid-back and would prefer to play in a family-friendly bowling alley. In either case, you can identify what works best for them.
  • Avoid awkward silences: Sitting across from someone at a candlelight table may be uncomfortable if there is a lot of silence. Bowling avoids this issue since the game's pace does not allow for many open or free moments (unless you want it to). You may stand on the sidelines as long as you like, but if anything embarrassing happens, the next bowler only needs to retrieve their ball and proceed to the lane.
  • Enjoy safe physical contact: It might be difficult to overcome the fear of initially touching your date, but it is necessary to demonstrate that you are attracted to and comfortable with them. Bowling, thankfully, alleviates the stress by providing several non-threatening opportunities to contact. You may give a high five or a fist bump on a nice bowl, or you could go more intimate by aiding your date with his or her bowling form.
  • Explore the entire bowling alley: If bowling isn't your thing, there's much more to do at a bowling alley. Most bowling alleys have arcade games, pool tables, a café and a bar area. Bowling lanes provide a variety of possibilities for taking a pause for chat or continuing to tackle new adventures together.
